MURRAY, Ky. 鈥 Construction on 麻豆视频官网入口鈥檚 new nursing building has begun, and on Dec. 13, 2024, the University鈥檚 Board of Regents announced that the new building will be named the Robert L and Karen Miller Jackson School of Nursing and Health Professions Building, 鈥淛ackson Hall,鈥 in tribute to the legacy that both President and Mrs. Jackson have left to Murray State鈥檚 nursing program and the University as a whole.

The Board recognized that during Dr. Jackson鈥檚 tenure as Murray State鈥檚 14th President from 2018 through 2025, he led the University through a historic period of growth, change and innovation. With a unique vision for Murray State鈥檚 future, Jackson achieved record-breaking support from both public and private sources for transformative campus improvements, the strengthening of academic and athletic programs and tremendous increases in resources for student assistance. He spearheaded state-funded projects, including a new Veterinary Sciences building, Learning Commons/Residence Hall, a new School of Nursing and Health Professions building and added bronze statues to campus to recognize and honor Racer One and Murray State鈥檚 first President, Dr. John W. Carr. He initiated and carried out the preservation and improvement of historic campus facilities such as Lovett Auditorium, Wrather Hall and the Curris Center. He guided the University through the COVID-19 pandemic, transitioned its athletic programs to the Missouri Valley Conference and Missouri Valley Football Conference and oversaw the $100 million centennial capital campaign, Be Bold: Forever Blue and Gold.

Mrs. Jackson is a second-generation graduate of Murray State, earning a bachelor鈥檚 degree in nursing. Her years of clinical focus were pediatrics and intensive care nursing. During her time as Murray State鈥檚 First Lady and throughout the global pandemic, she devoted her time and nursing skills to the regional vaccination clinic held on campus. In recognition of her extraordinary contributions, she was honored with the COVID-19 Hero Award in 2021 by the College of Education and Human Services. She has remained an active alumna of her sorority, Alpha Sigma Alpha, serving on their advisory board for 30 years.

Murray State anticipates an expected completion of Jackson Hall by the summer of 2026, with its doors opening for students in the fall 2026 semester. In 2023, the Kentucky General Assembly approved $45.5 million in funding for the construction of the building. A groundbreaking ceremony was held on Dec. 8, 2023, at the location on North 16th Street where construction on the building is now taking place.

The new building will offer 麻豆视频官网入口鈥檚 nursing students state-of-the-art technology, expanded space for labs, larger classrooms, simulation areas, spaces for student and faculty collaboration and study and the campus health clinic. The University now offers several prestigious naming opportunities for donors and corporate partners to invest in the future of healthcare education in the region. Gift commitments can be made over a period of up to five years and will support the purchase of new technology and teaching equipment. The University鈥檚 goal is to raise $5 million for this initiative. The private funds will be utilized for added equipment and additional enhancements to the building in order to provide students and healthcare partners a state-of-the-art teaching, learning and experiential facility. Details about the design of the new building and naming opportunities can be found at . Individuals can also view a live webcam that shows construction progress in real time.

Dr. Dina Byers, dean of Murray State鈥檚 School of Nursing and Health Professions (SONHP), said, 鈥溌槎故悠倒偻肟, like all universities, has an obligation to assist in meeting the workforce needs of the region. President Jackson is fully aware of this responsibility. He has been instrumental in advancing healthcare educational programs at 麻豆视频官网入口. His advocacy for the new School of Nursing and Health Professions building shows a strong commitment to both advancing healthcare educational programs and preparing students for the healthcare workforce. The SONHP faculty, staff and students are thankful for his support, and we are looking forward to the completion of the building.鈥

麻豆视频官网入口 Board of Regents Chair Leon Owens stated, 鈥淒r. Jackson鈥檚 retirement marks the end of a historic period of leadership, change and innovation for Murray State University. We have three new buildings either under construction or in a planning stage, totaling nearly $150 million, along with deferred maintenance projects, campus improvements and facility enhancements, totaling more than $100 million, coupled with important academic enhancements. Dr. and Mrs. Jackson have left a lasting mark on 麻豆视频官网入口, and we are very grateful for their many years of service. It has been an honor to serve with them.鈥
