Edgar Allan Poe performance to take place April 24-27

MURRAY, Ky. 鈥� The 麻豆视频官网入口 Department of Global Languages & Theatre Arts and Department of Music will perform Nevermore 鈥� The Imaginary Life and Mysterious Death of Edgar Allan Poe, written and composed by Jonathan Christenson. Performances will take place April 24-26 at 7:30 p.m. and April 27 at 2:30 p.m. at the Robert E. Johnson Theatre in the Price Doyle Fine Arts Building.

This unique and wildly theatrical musical combines haunting music and poetic storytelling to chronicle the fascinating life of iconic American writer Edgar Allan Poe. A literary rock star of his day, Poe struggles with tragedy and addiction, poverty and loss, yet produces some of the world鈥檚 most original, visionary and enduring literature before dying in unexplained circumstances at the age of 40. At once gorgeous and grotesque, Nevermore explores the events that shape Poe鈥檚 character and career, blurring the line between fact and fiction 鈥� after all, as Poe himself writes, 鈥淎ll that we see or seem is but a dream within a dream.鈥�

It is about really channeling the intrinsic nature of Poe鈥檚 struggles, allowing his pain and mystery to resonate in a way that was both haunting and, in a strange way, deeply empathetic. I think this is a show that will connect with audience members in a very real way!鈥�
